VELARDE’S WALLED SCULPTURE GARDEN, THE BACKDROP TO OUR BEAUTIFUL GALLERY SPACE, IS A SOUTH FACING SUNTRAP WHERE VISITORS WILL BE ABLE TO IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN THE JOY OF ART AND NATURE.
This little haven features a relaxing water feature and wildlife pond and has been sensitively designed to showcase exceptional art and sculpture amongst a carefully considered native planting scheme. As part of our green and ethical ethos, we aim to encourage the presence of birds and insects and create a habitat for local wildlife.
The works in our sculpture garden have been selected to showcase a diversity of talent, from Devon based to British and European artists. Our gallery unveils the never before seen work Enkidu Stone by eminent sculptor Peter Randall-Page, which comes to Velarde direct from his studio in the hills of Dartmoor. Royal Society Sculptor Jilly Sutton’s Tiltyard Lady and Mater Dolorosais are also on show, alongside the elegant bronze sculpture Secret by Spanish born artist Antonio Lopez Reche. Abstract works include Rook by British sculptor Richard Perry, beside vivid sculptural forms by Irish artist Patricia Volk FRSS, and a hanging installation by sculptor Clee Claire Lee MRSS. In addition, local artisan metalworker Andy Harris has been commissioned to create a beautiful grille set into the natural stone wall, featuring foxgloves and gold leaf butterflies.
The garden itself includes a water feature and wildlife pond, and a structured scheme of trees, shrubs and gravel paths amid borders filled with Cornus alba Elegantissima, Teucrium Lucidrys, Cornus Flaviramea and other native and exotic flowers.
