Artist talk with Andrew Mackenzie

We invite you to an exclusive illustrated talk with Scottish artist Andrew Mackenzie who will be discussing his work on show for his solo exhibition Within Trees at Velarde along with his ideas and processes on Saturday 4th October from 11am  -  12noon.

Andrew has exhibited widely, both nationally and abroad and currently teaches painting and studio practice at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh. His work moves in the space between abstraction and representation, building up surfaces through layered oil paint on panel, combined with intricate marks, lines, dots, and dashes. 

Andrew's new series of panel paintings responds to the landscape around his home in the Scottish Borders, referencing the tradition of landscape painting while quietly challenging it, drawing on the artist’s direct experience, readings, and influences from both historical and modern art. 

Within Trees is on at Velarde until the 27th December 2025.
