Dominic Welch

Contemporary British sculptor Dominic Welch is celebrated for his serene stone sculptures, known for their fluid forms, quiet elegance, and timeless sense of balance. Based in Devon, Welch creates hand-carved abstract sculptures that evoke harmony, movement, and connection with the natural world.

Born in Buckinghamshire, Dominic Welch did not follow a traditional path into sculpture. After placing a speculative advert seeking an apprenticeship, he was introduced to renowned sculptor Peter Randall-Page RA, with whom he worked for ten years. During this formative period, Welch mastered the demanding craft of stone carving while developing his own distinctive artistic voice.

For over fourteen years, Welch has worked independently, exhibiting internationally across the UK, Australia, the USA, and Japan. His contemporary stone sculptures can now be found in both private collections and public spaces around the world.

“It happens as I go along, as I work with the stone.” Dominic Welch

Working intuitively with the material, Welch carefully carves, smooths, and textures each sculpture until the final form emerges naturally from the stone. Every piece begins with hand-drawn markings placed directly onto the surface, allowing the sculpture to evolve through a deeply meditative and tactile process.

Dominic Welch’s sculptures are admired for their purity of form and calming presence. Their organic curves and dreamlike silhouettes create striking focal points in contemporary interiors, landscaped gardens, and architectural spaces. Balancing simplicity with technical mastery, his work offers collectors a powerful sense of stillness, beauty, and contemplation.
