Sunbeam Jackie

Sunbeam Jackie is the on-going collaboration between artist duo Charlie and Katy Napier. Their work is multidisciplinary, existing between the worlds of art and design.

The Sunbeam Jackie workshop is based in a 12th century Grain Store on an ancient farmstead in West Cornwall – a space where art, craftsmanship and design come together. More than a workshop, for Charlie and Katy it’s a creative zone and collaborative space, the surrounding landscape, the North Atlantic sea and Cornwall’s raw beauty influencing and energising the work made there.

The Sunbeam Jackie ‘Flower Power’ series transforms Charlie and Katy’s fluid pencil and charcoal drawings into steel garden sculptures, whose fantastical forms, in the spirit of Italian artist Giacomo Balla’s ‘Futurist Flowers,’ are inspired by Cornwall’s subtropical climate, exotic plants, and other-worldly landscapes.

The sculptures, made in mild steel and deliberately unfinished are designed to weather, evolve and rust. As the patina develops, the pieces blend into their surroundings and settle naturally into the landscape.
